Jose J. Pita was born on August 8th, 1988, as the firstborn of a humble family from Pinar del Rio, Cuba. Since he was two years old, his love for the arts started with a simple game with the wild clay he would find outside his home. At age seven, Pita created his first collection of toys he built from broken toy pieces and parts he made with clay, growing a love for this concept that still lingers. In 2006, Pita moved to the US with his family, seeking the American dream; he further continued his art studies, receiving a master's in fine Arts. He works as a teacher and a college professor with his ideas of inspiring new generations in their art and creativity and sharing his love for ceramics.
As a Florida-based artist, Jose J. Pita is drawn to the inherent complexities of childhood and its influence on our adult selves. His primary medium of clay allows him to manifest his childhood memories of crafting his toys from broken machine parts and clay elements. Through his work, he seeks to recreate the household items that evoke a sense of nostalgia and represent his upbringing in Cuba. Pita's creations transcend beyond mere objects; they serve as a doorway to the past and reflect his identity. His fascination with childhood and using clay to convey his narrative speaks to the universal experience of growing up and the power of imagination. Pita's art is a testament to our enduring connections with our childhood and a reminder of its profound impact on our lives.
